Super Spicy Nissin Mouko Tanmen Nakamoto Hokkyoku Black Ramen

Mouko Tanmen Nakamoto is a very popular Tokyo-based ramen chain specializing in spicy Tanmen noodle soups. It offers many varieties of spicy hot ramen and their spicy scales are written in the menu.

Among those, Hokkyoku ramen, literally north pole ramen, is highest in the spicy scale and said to be the spiciest ramen in Tokyo.

Its instant cup ramen was recreated by Nissin in collaboration with Mouko Tanmen Nakamoto and has been repeatedly sold for a limited time in 7-eleven convenience stores.

Actually, a variant of Nissin Mouko Tanmen Nakamoto Hokkyoku Ramen was released in Japan this February, and I tried it for the first time today.

Nissin Mouko Tanmen Nakamoto Black North Pole Ramen

The instant noodle soup I tasted this time is Nissin Mouko Tanmen Nakamoto Hokkyoku Black Ramen.

Unlike the original north pole ramen with a red package, this black north pole ramen gives a dark impression.

Actually, the Nissin Mouko Tanmen Nakamoto Hokkyoku Black Ramen features a soup broth with which its packaging is associated.

The ingredient

When you peel off the paper lid, you see dry ingredients with black colors scattered on the noodles.

According to the ingredient list, the topping on the dried noodles consists of seasoned chicken mincemeat, sesame seeds, Kikurage mushrooms, fried burnt garlic bits, red chili pepper, and chopped green onions.

Like its regular version, this black north pole ramen has a red flavor packet, which contains Nakamoto’s special burnt garlic oil.

You put the flavoring oil as a final touch just after you make the instant ramen.

The soup broth also has a black color. It is mainly flavored with powdered Miso soybean paste.

My review

The Nissin Mouko Tanmen Nakamoto Hokkyoku Black Ramen has a garlicky Miso flavor and aroma that stimulates the appetite.

Indeed, it is super spicy yet really savory and has lots of aromatic umami flavor that comes from burnt garlic and its oil. The umami overwhelms the heat.

In conclusion, I think the black north pole ramen is highly addictive if you love spicy foods.
