Kirin Gogo no Kocha: Lemon Tea and Milk Tea
As I wrote in the previous article, Royal Milk Tea reminds us of the tea company Lipton, but when we think of Milk Tea, the first product that comes to our mind is Kirin Gogo no Kocha.
Kirin Gogo no Kocha (Kirin 午後の紅茶)
“Gogo no Kocha (午後の紅茶: literally Afternoon Tea)” is a tea beverage that has been around since 1986 and is produced and sold by Kirin Beverage.
Since its debut in 1986, Kirin Gogo no Kocha has been holding the top share in the tea beverage market of Japan, where the product can be bought at almost any grocery store as well as from vending machines outside.
As Gogo no Kocha translates to Afternoon Tea, the product was named after Britain’s tea tradition Afternoon Tea, and because of that, the portrait of Anna Maria Russell, the originator of Afternoon Tea, is drawn on the front face.
Kirin Gogo no Kocha is now available in Straight, Lemon Tea, Milk Tea, No-Sugar, and Low-in-Sugar varieties, but the Lemon Tea and Milk Tea PET bottles I introduce here are especially popular.
Lemon Tea
Japanese Lemon Tea is black tea with lemon juice added, and this Kirin Gogo no Kocha Lemon Tea uses 15 percent Nuwara Eliya tea leaves from Sri Lanka as its main ingredient. It is a sweet lemon tea but has a nice fruity aroma and leaves a refreshing aftertaste.
Based on the label on the back face, the specific ingredients in the Gogo no Kocha Lemon Tea are sugars (high fructose corn syrup, sugar), black tea (including 15 percent Nuwara Eliya tea), lemon juice (0.1 percent), acidifier, flavoring, and vitamin C, and the calories per 100 ml are 28 kcal.
Milk Tea
Japanese Milk Tea is black tea with milk added, and this Kirin Gogo no Kocha Milk Tea uses 20 percent Kandy tea leaves from Sri Lanka as its main ingredient. It also has a rich tea aroma and the milk contained in it brings out an excellent creamy taste in the tea.
Based on the label on the back face, the specific ingredients in the Gogo no Kocha Milk Tea are milk (raw milk), sugar, black tea (including 20 percent Kandy tea), whole milk powder, skim milk powder, dextrin, salt, flavoring, emulsifier, and vitamin C, and the calories per 100 ml are 38 kcal.
