Benefits of Onsen Sui 99 Hot Spring Water Drink

The other day, I found an interesting product I had never tried in my neighbor’s supermarket and grabbed one because I wanted to know how it tastes.

It is an onsen water drink named “Onsen Sui 99 (温泉水99: Hot Spring Water 99)” meant for beauty and health, which I will review this time.

Onsen Sui 99 (500 ml) (Price: 148 yen/about 1.2 USD) is alkaline natural mineral water from Tarumizu Onsen in Kagoshima Prefecture.

The water has a high pH value ranging from 9.5 to 9.9, and its hardness is as low as 1.7 mg per liter.

Benefits

Based on the description on the side of the bottle, the onsen water has the following benefits.

  • The liquid deeply infiltrates into food and brings out umami. Also, it ensures that rice comes out nice and fluffy.
  • Unlike tap water, the beverage mixes with oil and doesn’t separate because of its emulsifying action.
  • The water doesn’t rust metal as fast as tap water because of its alkalinity.

But there are no specific descriptions of how the onsen drink helps with beauty and health.

Taste

The onsen mineral water feels soft and is very easy to drink. Because of the pure taste, I think it can become the perfect water for coffee, black tea, shochu, or whiskey.
