Nissin Cup Noodle: New Edition Salt Flavor Negishio

At the end of February of this year (2023), there was big news from Nissin; Their Cup Noodle Sio (塩: salt) was replaced by Negishio (ねぎ塩: green onion salt) after 21 years have passed since its first release in 2003.

You may have heard of Negishio in the Yakiniku restaurant. For the unfamiliar, as I wrote in this article, Negi Shio is a Japanese seasoning/condiment mainly consisting of chopped green onions, sesame oil, and salt.

The Negishio Cup Noodle comes with a 炭火焼き/charcoal grill 風味/flavor 鶏油/chicken oil, which enhances the umami and aroma of the soup by adding after cooking the noodles.

This Cup Noodle’s Nazoniku (謎肉: mystery meat) has a whitish hue (as it is chicken) and is seared, for Negishio sauce generally goes well with grilled meat. The other garnishes are cabbage, seasoned eggs, green onions, and red bell peppers.

Cooking

The cooking of this Cup Noodle is not that complicated, as seen in the table below. I cooked it following the directions on the side of the cup.

1 First, pour boiling water until it fills the line indicated inside the cup after removing the flavor oil sachet and peeling the lid halfway.
2 Then, close the lid, on which place the sachet, and wait for 3 minutes.
3 3 minutes later, remove the lid and add the 鶏油/Chiyu chicken oil to the cup.

Taste

The salt-based Cup Noodle is, as a whole, rich in umami from chicken, and its pleasant aroma and flavorful, smoky taste are reminiscent of the fun dining at the Yakiniku restaurant.

Yes, the ramen is a Japanese taste rather than Western. But I think everyone can like it simply because it’s so tasty.
