Thin Potato: New Potato Chips from Calbee
When it comes to Japanese potato chips, Calbee is the top maker known for the product “Potato Chips (ポテトチップス)” which, in Japan, has been a staple snack in many households for decades.
In 2020, the company released new potato chips named “Thin Potato (シンポテト)” which is said to have taken about six years to develop.
Calbee Thin Potato Chips
The “新 (シン: New)” potato chip, Calbee Thin Potato, has already gained wide popularity, especially among women, because using sunflower oil, they are easy to eat bite-size pieces with a light taste.
For the snack, potato slices are folded into layers, fried until perfectly crunchy, and then exquisitely salted.
I also love these small thin crisps and sometimes buy the treats at convenience stores.
Calbee Thin Potato comes in “絶妙しお (exquisite salt)” and “金色バター (golden butter)” flavors and is available for 127 yen or so (about 1.1 USD).
