Pocari Sweat is a forerunner of the Japanese sports drink introduced by Otsuka Pharmaceutical in April 1980 with the concept of drinkable I.V.

And as a response to that, Coca-Cola Japan launched the isotonic drink brand Aquarius in April 1983.

These not only come in canned/bottled drinks, but they are also available in instant powder form.

Benefits

Otsuka Pocari Sweat contains seven ions consisting of Na+ (21 mEq/L), K+ (5), Ca2+ (1), Mg2+ (0.5), Cl- (16.5 mEq/L), citrate3- (10), and lactate- (1).

The beverage is close to human body fluid and smoothly replenishes the lost water and electrolytes after sweating.

Also, the Aquarius water’s osmotic pressure is nearly equal to human body fluid, and the beverage quickly supplies minerals and water to support your activity.

Taste

Otsuka Pocari Sweat is light-tasting with less than 5 percent grapefruit juice and only leaves a faint aftertaste.

Coca-Cala Aquarius doesn’t contain fruit juice but uses grapefruit flavoring. This beverage has a slight acidity, which sets it apart from Pocari Sweat.

Although both are tasty and easy to drink, the Pocari Sweat water has a milder taste.
