Natto: What Cup Ramen Goes Best with Natto?
Although I sometimes add some seasoning or condiments to instant Ramen for extra flavor or Ajihen/味変, I had never tried cup Ramen with Natto.
Besides, I have never seen Natto Ramen/納豆ラーメン listed on the menu in Japanese Ramen restaurants, but I was curious about the food combination.
Natto Ramen (納豆ラーメン)
So yesterday night, I finally researched Natto Ramen on the net and found a cup of instant Ramen pairs well with those fermented soybeans.
In the Google search results, some say soy sauce-based Shoyu Ramen goes best with Natto, and I noticed the Ramen restaurant chain Tenka-Ippin/天下一品 serves Natto Ramen.
But what attracted my attention most was the combo of Natto and Nissin Mouko Tanmen Nakamoto, for the instant noodle is my favorite Ramen cup.
Once introduced on a TV show, the food combination amazed the host with its unexpected deliciousness, and now, even the official site of the 7-Eleven Premium recommends it.
with Nissin Mouko Tanmen Nakamoto
Today, as preparation, I stopped by a 7-Eleven convenience store again and grabbed these Natto packs and Nissin Mouko Tanmen Nakamoto. And I tried the combo at dinner.
The Natto I prepared for the Ramen is Goku-Kotsubu/極小粒 or consists of small-size whole soybean grains, as the 7 Premium website recommends.
And I added the fermented beans without seasoning (after stirring lightly) to the usual cooked Ramen cup and enjoyed mixing little by little.
The Natto slightly stinks, but the spicy Miso-based broth of the Mouko Tanmen offsets its taste and smell well, and I could enjoy it deliciously until the last drop!
The combo is more than I expected & lives up to its reputation, and I can recommend this to people who don’t dislike Natto (as it gets slimy).
The Natto works very well in the Ramen, making it mild yet tantalizing!
