The Popularity Ranking of Japanese Snacks

When it comes to Japanese snacks and candies, there are tons of fans around the world. Japanese treats keep evolving, and new types of products are coming one after another.

As for me, I am fond of trying brand-new things and limited-time offers. And when I was shopping at a supermarket the other day, I found a product that drew my interest.

Calbee Mentaiko-Mayo flavored Pizza Potato Chips

As a result, I yielded to the temptation, grabbing the bag, Calbee Mentaiko-Mayo Pizza Potato Chips, a limited-time snack released recently. Now, I am writing this article, munching them.

As you may know, Calbee is Japan’s largest snack food manufacturer and has been introducing products to North America under the capital and business alliance with PepsiCo.

Of course, other than Calbee, there are a lot of snack food makers in Japan, and they are fiercely vying with one another to increase their market share.

Top 10 Most Popular Snacks in Japan

And today, I wondered what products are more popular than others, and I searched for the popularity ranking.

From some online sources, I learned that a popularity contest for Japanese snacks was held on a TV program last November,

where 10,000 people participated and chose their favorite treats from about 1700 kinds of Japanese snacks and candies.

According to the result, the top 10 most popular snacks and sweets are as follows.

#1. (Calbee) Jagariko Salad

Half of the top 10 are from Calbee, 6 are salty snacks, and the rest are sweets. To my surprise, almost all the products are available on Amazon.com.

Only the Kit Kat Minis is from foreign companies.

In conclusion, as expected, the products from Calbee won a sweeping victory.
