Orion Mini Cola & Mini Sour: Dagashi Ramune Candies

When it comes to Dagashi (駄菓子), Orion (オリオン) is one of the companies that you should remember, together with Yaokin (やおきん).

While the latter reminds many people of Umaibo, what comes to mind when I think of Orion is sugar candies, which include Cocoa Cigarette, Ume Mints, and these Mini Cola and Mini Sour.

Orion is an Osaka-based maker specializing in confections marketed toward children, and these Mini Cola (ミニコーラ) and Mini Sour (ミニサワー) are among their signature products.

They are Ramune sugar candies with cola and sour flavors that come in canned drinks-like little cute containers, released in 1978 and 1979, respectively.

These treats not only have an addicting refreshing taste, but they only cost 30 yen per bottle. And that is why they have long been a children’s favorite in Japan.

It’s been quite some time since I last ate these, but to my joy, I could find them unchanged, and their taste brought back memories of my childhood.

I think Orion Mini Cola and Mini Sour are among the best-known Dagashi candies, and I highly recommend them because of their delicious taste despite being 30 yen!
